University Racing Eindhoven (URE) is a student team of Eindhoven University of Technology. The team stands for technological innovation, teamwork and a passion for engineering. By competing in the Formula Student competition, the world's largest engineering design competition that takes place all over the world, we try to push ourselves and our cars to new limits! Using a combination of the engineering skills of all the members and some help from our dear partners, we are able to build a high-tech, innovative electric and autonomous Formula-style race-car every year. During the Formula Student events, the result of our hard work is put to the test. Determination to be the very best comes from a passion for engineering that lies deep within every one of our team members, resulting in something epic year after year. However, the events aren't only about winning, they are also a perfect place to share information with other teams and technological companies to develop new ideas.
Overall, URE is a great place to gain experience in designing, manufacturing and tuning the racecars of the future and being a team player in an environment of highly motivated engineering students.
Formula Student is the world's largest design competition for students, with competitions being held all over the globe every year. Formula Student traces its roots back to Formula SAE, which was founded in 1981 in Texas. The original concept behind the competition was that a fictional manufacturing company has contracted a student design team to develop a small Formula-style race car. This car has to be designed, build, tested and driven by students, with every year a new car. The focus of the competition is on the design process of the car, promoting clever problem-solving and well-organized teams, resulting in the engineers of the future.
Formula SAE made its way to Europe in 1998, and Formula Student was contested in the UK. Twenty years later, the competition has become worldwide. Every year, Formula Student events are staged in countries including Germany, the UK, Austria, Hungary, the Netherlands, and over 700 other teams participating in the sport. The competition has expanded beyond its initial intent, and teams are now evaluated on more factors than just speed, including building methods, financial planning, team dynamics, and sales pitches.
Formula Student Electric, a new class specifically for electric vehicles, was launched in 2010. With the URE05e, URE was among the first teams to enter the new class, and it has been participating in this class ever since. The next era that was introduced, a class for driverless vehicles called Formula Student Driverless, was created by Formula Student in 2017. In 2022 Formula Student Germany introduced the driverless cup. This forces teams to drive autonomously and manually at the same competition using the same car. We will continue to participate in the driverless cup this year.
